Pangea Day

I got this e-mail from TED today about Pangea Day, and it's very exciting. The whole world coming together to watch films. Check it out here.

Yoga/Marathon

So just wanted to catch up from the last week of training. I ran again two weeks ago, about 8 miles, and it felt really good. Then my friend Mike introduced me to Bikram Yoga on Sunday. I really liked the class so I signed up, and I'm now on day 8 of yoga. I have put myself in the Bikram Yoga Challenge, which is 60 classes in 60 days, and so far I am 7/8, which I'll be catching up on tonight. This morning I had a breakdown with my schedule as I showed up at yoga at 5:30 only to see that it was closed. No early class on Mondays. I was also driving on an empty tank, so I checked the schedule and behold there was a 6am class at the west university school. So I stopped off and filled up. A guy at the gas station asked me for $.75 for bus fare home, to which I replied I don't have any money. I noticed how I completely avoided the conversation by saying that instead of just telling him I had the money and I would not give him any. So I made it to yoga at 6am, and class was very enjoyable. I met Mike who is the owner/co-owner? of the school. I am planning on going to class again tonight at 6:30pm. As I was leaving I ran into Daz? who taught my first yoga class, and I told her where I was in my training. I am noticing more and more definition of my muscles, however there is also something I did not expect, I am gaining weight. I think that it's muscle, but I'm not sure. I'll have to ask Mike to check my body fat % this week.

Marathon Training - Starting Over

So I have a confession. I haven't been training for the last three weeks. I went to England, and I ran while I was there. Not too big a deal. I had plenty of time. When I got home I just quit. Now sure I have excuses for it, but honestly I didn't even try to fit it into my schedule. So yesterday I started over with my training program, and it was awesome. Let me say a little something about nuclear reactors just to set the stage for my experience. Nuclear reactors sustain an ongoing fission reaction, which is kept under control by introducing control rods into the reactor. These control rods absorb the radiation and slow the reaction. When the control rods are removed the reaction speeds up and more energy is generated. So yesterday I removed the control rods, and allowed my body to generate, and it was amazing. I am not in as good a shape as I have been, and I could tell, but after about 20 minutes of running through the rain I started to feel that reaction going on inside me, and that makes it all worth it. So I ran 3.8 miles yesterday, and I am back on track. I did a quick check, and I don't see any marathons in August where I'd like to run, so I'm looking at doing the Fox Cities Marathon in Appleton, WI where I grew up. It is on September 20th. http://www.foxcitiesmarathon.org/

Review of Fergie

OK so I've been procrastinating a little, or maybe a lot. The Fergie show was outstanding. The crowd was pretty young, actually I just got stuck standing behind teenage girls, but it wasn't all like that. After we started to move around we actually found some empty seats and I got to enjoy the last few songs from a pretty good seat. Fergie was funny. She made fun of the fried twinkies at the rodeo, of course who can resist. My pictures from that night didn't turn out. The stage was pretty far away, so you can't really make out anything. The finale was cool. Fergie and company hopped in the back of a convertible and rode around the stadium and it finished off with some fireworks inside the stadium. Awesome! On the way home we got lost looking for the car and had to backtrack. Overall it was a good night.
