Indian Ocean fusion-music concert - Friday, August 29th at 6:30 pm - - eFlyer

I received this from a fellow Carnegie Mellon Alumni, so I am passing it along as requested:

Dear Alex,

I am Akshay Lalla, a Carnegie Mellon alumni of 2005. I am presently the leader of the CRY - Child Rights and You America Houston Chapter (www.america.cry.org), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to bring about uplifting of the underprivileged and deprived children especially in USA and India.

In an effort to raise funds for the above noble cause I am organizing a major concert by the leading and famed Indian Ocean fusion-music band which shall be performing for us live at the prestigious Cullen Performance Hall at the University of Houston on Friday, 29th August 2008 from 8.00 pm onwards. The Artists` reception is at 6.30 pm.

I would like to invite you for the concert. Further, it is my humble submission that I need all assistance from you in the form of donations, attendance and spreading the message around through your networks and contacts about the event to make it a grand success.

Please come forward and rise to the occasion for a just cause. Kindly note that for those who need, heavy group and student discounts are also available.

The event promises to provide a great musical extravaganza, an evening full of fun and entertainment, and a lifetime experience.

Have fun for a purpose, while you raise funds for underprivileged children!

Request for Charity Pledges

On Monday, I completed my 20-mile training run. It was about 12:30am when I stepped off the tread-mill, having completely given everything I had. Earlier that day I did not think I would ever complete the 20-mile run. I had evidence that I wouldn't. I had not completed my training runs earlier in the week, and I had only gotten back on track with my training the day before with an easy 5 mile run. What I got though was that anything I say I can do, I can grant myself the courage, grace, and passion to do. This is only possible through sharing with others what is possible for me, and through listening to others as bigger than they know themselves to be.
I now have a request of you. I am running the Fox Cities Marathon on September 21st, and my goal is to raise $1000 for charity. I will make a sacred pact with you, I request that you make a pledge to donate as generously as you can to your favorite charity. For some that may be $10, for most of you that may be $100, $1000 or more. If I keep my promise and complete the marathon, then I ask that you keep your promise and donate what you pledged to the charity on behalf of me. If no charity comes to mind, there are several that I suggest: the ACLU, the Advocates for Self-Government, the Drug Policy Alliance, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, or Free Press.
If you will make a pledge, simply send an e-mail to me with the pledge amount, and the charity that you will be donating to. My e-mail address is alex@cresswell.org. I will send you an e-mail after the race on Sept 21st to let you know that I completed it, and share the experience with you.
Thank you for your generosity, and you will be in my heart when I take on this run on September 21st.

Marathon Training

Sunday I did my longest run so far, a total of about 8.7 miles. The last several days I ran about 4 miles a day. I bought running shoes today, and signed up for a running club. Today's run was awesome with the new shoes, and I'm looking forward to training tomorrow.
